Who this is for
Apartments, balconies, RVs, boats, small patios, and anyone who wants to try pellet cooking without committing. 202 square inches feeds two to three people, and the controller is the same PID family Z Grills puts in its full-size grills.
What is impressive about it
The controller. At this price almost everything else in the market uses a simple dial, and a simple dial on a tiny chamber swings badly because there is so little thermal mass. Putting PID V3.0 in a 202 square inch grill is the thing that makes this cooker work rather than merely exist.
The 8 lb hopper is the other surprise. Ten hours of low-and-slow in a tabletop means you can actually smoke a pork shoulder on it — slowly, for two people, but genuinely.
The limitations, clearly
- 202 square inches is small. Two to three people. One rack of ribs plus sides. This is the main thing to be realistic about.
- It needs a wall outlet. Not a 12V camping grill — see portable pellet grills if that matters.
- 450°F, indirect. Weak searing. A small cast iron pan on the grate is the practical fix at this size.
- Check your lease and local fire code before putting it on a balcony. Many prohibit open-flame cooking regardless of fuel — see apartment and balcony rules.

Our call
The best tabletop pellet grill for the money, and the cheapest grill on this site we would recommend without caveats about the controller. Buy it if space or budget is the binding constraint — and be realistic that 202 square inches feeds two or three.

Questions people actually ask
Is the Z Grills 200A any good?
Yes — it has the same PID V3.0 controller family as Z Grills’ full-size grills, an 8 lb hopper rated at around ten hours, and a 25 x 20 x 13 inch footprint. For low-$200s it is the cheapest complete pellet cooker we would recommend.
Can you smoke on a tabletop pellet grill?
Yes. Smoke output depends on the burn pot and the temperature, not the chamber size. The 8 lb hopper gives you roughly ten hours at smoking temperatures.
How many people does 202 square inches feed?
Two to three in mixed grilling, or about one rack of ribs plus sides.
Can I use it on an apartment balcony?
Check your lease and your local fire code first — many prohibit open-flame cooking on balconies whatever the fuel, and electric ignition does not exempt a pellet grill.
