The hopper decides it for smokers
Z Grills publishes 28 lb for the 7002C and does not publish a figure for the 600D2. At roughly 1.25 lb an hour at smoking temperatures, 28 lb is about 22 hours — comfortably more than any single cook needs.
If you plan to do overnight pork shoulders or briskets, that specification alone justifies the 7002C over the 600D2. If you mostly grill and do the occasional four-hour rib cook, it is irrelevant.
What the 600D2 has that the 7002C does not
A full bottom storage cabinet. If your grill lives on a patio with nowhere to keep a bag of pellets and some tools, that is genuinely useful — damp pellets are the most common cause of auger jams, and a closed cabinet helps.
Z Grills also quotes the 600D2 at 24 burgers, 5 rib racks or 4 chickens, which is a real family’s worth of food. 572 square inches is not a small grill.
Our call
The 7002C, for the hopper and the accessories. By the time you buy a cover, a second probe and a grease bucket for the 600D2, the price gap narrows substantially — and you still have the smaller hopper.
The one combination that would change our mind: if you want the cabinet AND the big hopper, the Z Grills 700 with the storage cabinet has both.

- Rain cover, two probes, grease bucket and gloves included
- Two locking casters plus two wheels
- Pellet viewing window
Where it falls short
- No WiFi, so the app crowd should look elsewhere
