Pit Boss Grill Covers: Which One Fits

Find your model number first

Pit Boss cover fitment is driven by the barrel footprint, not the series name. Check the model number on the plate inside the hopper lid or on the original box — “Pit Boss 850” could be an 820 Deluxe, an 850 DX, an Advantage 850SL or a Navigator 850, and their dimensions differ.

Fitment by footprint

We are not going to assert an exact fit for every Pit Boss variant from a third-party listing’s model list — those lists are approximate and Pit Boss’s own naming overlaps. Measure your grill (width at the widest point, depth including the hopper, and height with the lid closed) and compare with the cover’s stated dimensions. That takes two minutes and avoids a return.

The front shelf problem

Many Pit Boss barrels have a folding front shelf, and several of ours have an optional one you can add — see the accessories page. A cover sized for the bare grill will not go over an extended shelf.

Fold the shelf down before covering. If you leave it up permanently, buy a cover one size larger and accept a looser fit.

Vertical cabinets need their own cover

A barrel cover will not fit a Navigator 3-Series or 6-Series. Cabinets are tall and narrow where barrels are wide and low, and the hopper sits in a different place. Search specifically for a vertical smoker cover and match the series number.

OEM versus third party for Pit Boss

Pit Boss sells its own covers and they fit exactly. Third-party 600D covers cost a fraction and fit well enough if you measure. Our view: on a 500 FB2 or 440, buy the generic. On a Navigator 1600, the OEM cover is a small percentage of the purchase and removes the guesswork.

Note also that the Advantage 850SL includes a fitted cover in the box — so if you are choosing between it and the Navigator 850, factor that in.
