Traeger Grill Covers

Traeger's own covers fit exactly and cost about three times a generic. Here is when that is worth paying and when it is not.

Are Traeger covers waterproof?

Traeger’s full-length covers are water-resistant and model-specific. The advantage over a generic 600D cover is exact fitment and matching appearance, not a different fabric technology. No grill cover should be fully sealed — that traps condensation against the steel.

The fitment advantage is real on a Traeger

Traeger’s accessory system — P.A.L. Pop-And-Lock rails, folding side shelves, ModiFIRE surfaces — means a Traeger’s outline changes depending on what you have attached. Their own covers are cut around the rails and shelves.

A generic 600D cover sized to the barrel will go over a bare Traeger and will fight an accessorized one. If you have added shelves, hooks or bins, the OEM cover is the straightforward choice.

When to buy generic instead

  • On a Pro 22 or Tailgater, where the cover’s cost is a meaningful percentage of the grill and the shape is simple.
  • If the grill lives under a roof, where the cover is dust protection more than weather protection.
  • As a spare, because a second cover means one can dry while the other is on.

On a Woodridge Pro Plus or an Ironwood 885, the OEM cover is a small fraction of the purchase and we would just buy it.

Which cover for which Traeger

Traeger covers are sold per model. Confirm the model name on the listing before ordering.
GrillCover approach
Pro 780Traeger BAC504 full-length (our pick), or a generic 600D
Pro 22Generic 600D is fine — simple shape, cheaper grill
Westwood / Woodridge familyOEM, because of the P.A.L. rails and side shelves
Ironwood 885OEM — the cover is a rounding error on this grill
Tailgater / RangerGeneric or a Traeger portable-specific cover

What a cover actually protects on a Traeger

The same three things as on any pellet grill, but one matters more here:

The hopper. Traeger hoppers are 18 lb — small, which means you refill often, which means the lid is opened often, which means more opportunity for moisture to get in. And damp pellets crumble and jam the auger. On a grill with a narrow auger, that is the failure to prevent. See how to store wood pellets.

Then the controller (electronics bolted outside) and the body (powder-coated steel that chips and rusts).

We have not fit-tested generic covers on current Traeger models. The reasoning above is from Traeger’s published accessory system and each cover’s own stated fitment. Measure your grill before buying a generic.

Questions people actually ask

Are Traeger covers waterproof?

Water-resistant, which is correct — a fully sealed cover traps condensation and rusts the grill from inside. Their advantage is exact model fitment, not fabric technology.

Is a Traeger OEM cover worth the extra?

On an accessorized grill, yes — Traeger’s covers are cut around the P.A.L. rails and side shelves that a generic will fight. On a bare Pro 22 or Tailgater, a generic 600D is fine.

Will a generic cover fit a Traeger?

A bare Traeger, usually. One with shelves, hooks or bins attached, often not. Measure width, depth including the hopper, and height with the lid closed before ordering.
