Camp Chef Woodwind Pro WiFi 24 Review
One genuine advantage over every other pellet grill, and one genuine frustration: Camp Chef barely publishes any specifications for it.

Who this is for
Someone who has cooked on a pellet grill and been disappointed by the depth of smoke flavor. That is a real, specific problem, and the Woodwind Pro is the only grill in our registry that addresses it in hardware rather than with a workaround.
Why the smoke box matters
A pellet grill burns efficiently, which is exactly why it produces less smoke than an offset. Above roughly 250°F the smoke output on most pellet cookers drops to the point where the wood flavor becomes subtle.
A smoke box burning wood chunks sits alongside the pellet fire and smolders the way a log fire does. That produces a different and heavier smoke profile than pellets alone. No Pit Boss, Traeger or Z Grills grill offers this at any price.
The specification problem
Camp Chef’s Amazon listing for the Woodwind Pro WiFi 24 states no cooking area, no hopper capacity, no temperature range and no warranty length. We are not going to fill those gaps with figures we cannot source. If any of them is decisive for your purchase, check Camp Chef’s own site or the retailer listing before you buy. For a cooker at this price, publishing less than a $330 Z Grills does is a fair criticism.
What the listing does state: WiFi and Bluetooth monitoring and control through the Camp Chef app, down-and-out ventilation for even heat and smoke through the chamber, durable stainless steel, and Sidekick compatibility.
The Sidekick is the second real differentiator
A gas burner that bolts to the side and accepts a griddle, grill box, artisan pizza oven or stock pot. Because it has its own independent heat source, you can sear or griddle at full gas temperature while the main chamber holds 225°F.
That is a better engineering answer to the grill-plus-griddle question than any combo cart — see griddle combos. It is sold separately, on top of an already expensive grill.
The value argument against it
A Pit Boss Navigator 1300 gives you a documented 1,329 square inches, a 30 lb hopper, direct-flame searing and a five-year warranty for a fraction of this price. On every measurable axis it wins.
Before paying the premium, try the cheap version of the same idea: a smoke tube costs single-digit dollars and adds about four hours of real smoke to any grill. If that satisfies you, a Navigator 1300 plus a tube is the better purchase and it is not close. If it does not — if you want automatic, all-cook chunk-wood smoke — this is the grill. Side by side: Camp Chef vs Pit Boss.
One Camp Chef product we recommend to everyone
Their pellets. Kiln-dried virgin hardwood, no oils or binders, in 20 lb bags that undercut Traeger’s 18 lb, and they work in any brand of grill. Low moisture means a hotter, cleaner burn and less ash. See our pellet rankings.

How it scores
Weighted rubric score: 7.4/10. Value carries the most weight on this site by design. On our published scale that is 8.7/10.
What it does well
- The smoke box burns actual wood chunks alongside the pellets — no other cooker here does this
- Down-and-out ventilation pulls smoke across the food rather than straight up the chimney
- Stainless construction, WiFi and Bluetooth
- Sidekick compatible, so a gas griddle or pizza oven bolts to the side
Where it falls short
- Camp Chef has discontinued the 24-inch model: it is gone from campchef.com and has no buyable Amazon offer as of 2026-11-06
- Camp Chef publishes almost no specifications for it — no cooking area, no hopper capacity, no temperature range
- The Woodwind Pro line continues only in the 36-inch size, at a higher price

Questions people actually ask
Is the Camp Chef Woodwind Pro worth the money?
Only if smoke flavor is your first priority. The chunk-wood smoke box is a genuine advantage no other brand offers. On cooking area, hopper, warranty and price it loses badly to Pit Boss.
What is the Woodwind Pro's cooking area?
Camp Chef does not state it on the Amazon listing we track, so we do not publish a figure. Check Camp Chef’s own site if it is decisive for you.
How does the smoke box work?
It burns wood chunks alongside the pellet fire, smoldering the way a log fire does, which produces heavier and deeper smoke than a pellet burn pot alone — especially above 250°F where pellet smoke output drops.
Is a smoke tube a cheaper alternative?
Partly. A tube costs a few dollars and adds about four hours of real smoke to any grill, but it needs lighting by hand and does not run the whole cook. Try it before paying three times as much for a dedicated smoke box.
